Introduction
Palace Technologies, a subsidiary of Palace Group, has an impressive record in waste water treatment plant projects that dates back to more than twenty years ago with Olivantsvlei and Bushkoppies in1989. In recent years, the company has been heavily involved in waste water treatment for ERWAT. In the last ten years though, we have undertaken consulting engineering services for new plants as well as for plant upgrades.
Palace Technologies current and completed projects in waste water treatment plants
Palace Technologies was appointed in 2003 together with BCP (Palace/BCP JV) by ERWAT to render consulting engineering services for the process design, preliminary design, tender design, detailed design and construction supervision of the Waterval 50Mℓ /day plant extension. For this project, Palace Technologies undertook the design of the Mechanical and Electrical works as well as the bulk of the structural design work. Construction on this plant commenced in June 2004 and the plant was commissioned in 2008.
Due to the successful execution of this project, the Palace Technologies/BCP JV was awarded the subsequent appointments of the Welgedacht 50 Mℓ/day plant extension as well as the Rietvlei new plant site selection and construction for ERWAT.
At the client’s impression with the performance of the new Waterval module 4, Palace Technologies was requested to design and construct a very similar plant for the Welgedacht planned plant extensions. The design for Welgedacht turned out to be slightly different to those of the Waterval module where tighter effluent quality standards as well as higher electricity prices required that the plant be reconfigured to take advantage of more appropriate technology. Palace Technologies undertook various studies, such as the life cycle costs analysis of aeration methods for the bio-reactors. As consulting engineers we honour our responsibility to advise our clients of the advantages and disadvantages of alternative technologies, and are therefore proud of the work performed in this area, especially for the Welgedacht design, it has been of the highest standard and has resulted in the selection of technologies which are against the typical norm.
Thus far, Palace Technologies has completed and is working on several waste water treatment projects for ERWAT. Our projects portfolio includes projects such as the Waterval new 50Mℓ/day module 4, which has been completed, and ongoing projects such as the Waterval Sludge digestion and dewatering, Welgedacht new 50Mℓ/day module 2, Hartbeesfontein 14Mℓ/day plant upgrade, and Rietvlei scoping for a new plant.
