Palace Super Falcons set new record in women's football
Palace Super Falcons crowned National Women's Champions for the third consecutive time!!
Palace Super Falcons, owned and funded by Palace Group set a new record in South African women's football by becoming the first team to win the Sasol National Women's Championship for a third' consecutive time.
Falcons won the title after beating archrivals Cape Town Roses 5 goals to nil in the final clash held on Sunday, 1st July 2012. Falcons also pocketed fifty-thousand rand (R50 000) for lifting the trophy which they keep as they have now won the tournament three times in a row. This is the first time prize-money was handed out in the championships which have been running for four year.
The road to the final was a difficult one as Falcons was plagued by injuries and red carded players however the players and the technical team were determined to fight to the bitter end but so were the opposing teams.
Results for the Group stages were as follows:
- Palace Super Falcons (5) vs City Lads (0)- Cape Town Roses (1) vs Palace Super Falcons (2)
- Palace Super Falcons (2) vs Kanatla (2)
Having qualified for the semi-finals, Falcons faced a tough opponent in Bloemfontein Celtics. The semi-final was played on Friday, 29th June and ended with Falcons winning 3 goals to one.
Palace Group is very proud of the team's outstanding performance at the tournament and throughout the years. The Technical Team and the players put in a great effort to achieve what they have today.
The Coach, Jabu Mabaso, says ' he is very pleased with the results. It was tough but we made it. The first team in South Africa to achieve this. The players worked very hard and were disciplined. They are extremely happy '.
