The first phase of this project consists of the installation of one thousand and thirty eight (1038) meter displays, two hundred and sixty (260) pole top boxes, eleven (11) demand meters and eleven (11) cell concentrators.

In keeping with its values of skills transfer, Grinpal appointed fifty (50) local youth contractors. The youth contractors will be trained in the various aspects of the project including the installation of the meters, pole top boxes and cell concentrators.

Grinpal project engineers will conduct the training sessions for the local contractors in this community as in all other areas where we install the meters. Such training provides employment opportunities for the locals and the important factor for Grinpal too is that it allows the transfer of skills.

About Ventersdorp

Ventersdorp is a town situated in North West Province of South Africa. The town grew around a Dutch Reformed Church that was established in 1866. The town was named after Johannes Venter who owned the land the church was built on. The town's population is just two thousand (2000) while the nearby township of Tshing has a population of around fifteen thousand (15000).

The township of Tshing houses most of the town's black and coloured population.The Tshing Township has a diamond mine nearby: a town councilor owned it in the early 1990s.
