Vegetation Management
|
|
Client: Eskom Southern Region Location: East London Status: In progress Description: Palace Technologies, a subsidiary of Palace Group, has been appointed to provide supervision and project management services on the vegetation projects. The scope of work covers transmission networks (>66kV) as well as MV (11kV and above) and LV (less than 1000V) distribution networks in Port Elizabeth, Mthata, East London and Queenstown. In particular, the project entails the management and control of trees to provide clearance and right of way for power lines. Clearance is created by use of mechanical, chemical (herbicides) and other techniques to ensure the safe and reliable operation of transmission lines. Vegetation management plays an important part in the prevention of outages and ensuring reliable electric service. The overgrowth of vegetation near power lines may cause the power line to collapse posing danger to animals and humankind alike. They are also likely to cause outages that may results in a total failure of the power system, resulting in huge losses for Eskom, the business community and for the country as a whole.
